When Malika Haqq, came by to pick up a print of an image I photographed of her "bff" Khloe Kardashian, I couldn't help myself to try a new collection designed and sent to me by NARS cosmetics on her. It's the Summer 2009 collection and it's amazing! It reminds me of the old technicolor movies and musicals set in the tropics in the 1950's staring beauties like Carmen Maramnda. Its exotic palette of a bright deep teal blue with sliver glitter can be used to create a dramatic evening eye or used with a damp thin eyeshadow brush and applied as a liner to achieve a subtle accent of color. Don't be afraid to think you can't use such a vibrant collection, it's wearable and perfect to enhance any woman's summer makeup regime.
It's no wonder Make up genius Fracois Nars created such a vibrant, exotic collection. He now lives on a tropical isle. The lush green jungle, beautiful pink sandy beaches and the vibrant sunsets are all in this amazing new Summer 2009 collection designed by Nars.
I love the Bright teal blue eye shadow in "Tropic" against Malika's flawless, dark almond skintone...isn't she hot? And she has an identical twin sister Khadijah, whom I can never tell apart. I will be doing a beauty story with them together soon for sure. I used the golden eye shadow duo in "Scorching Sun" first as a base, then blended the bright glittery blue "Tropic" shadow over Malika's entire eye lid. Then using a liquid black eye liner, I applied a very thin line along the lash line, and coated and curled her lashes.
I softly defined her brows with a light brown eyebrow pencil and to finish the look. I used the pale pinky-beige lip gloss in "Belize" to give a fresh, chic look with the blue eye make up. I also added a faux strip eyelash for added flare. This is a great collection for your island get away or if you just want to create one at home, like I did with the beautiful Malika Haqq. Let me know what you think? Would you dare to wear Blue?
P.S. love the earrings? Curations.com baby!

hey troy i was wondering if you could help me with a makeup problem i always have, no matter what how much powder or concealer i use underneath my eyemakeup always seems to like feather down..best way to describe it it looks like too eyeliner lines way below where they should be. you can kinda see it happening in this pic:http://i40.tinypic.com/142786f.jpg
any advice?
STUNNING. It's so refreshing to see beautiful makeup on brown skinned women. I need to link this on my blog!
OMG,stunning! I loved the collection before, but now I KNOW it will work for me! Thank you so much! So glad you started a blog!
Kristen, instead of using a eye liner, try lining your eyes with a thin damp eye shadow brush and powdered shadow! Leave the eye-liner for the inside of your eyes.
But to tell you the truth, I kinda like the way it looks smudgy and edgy on you. But if you want a cleaner line, try the powder shadow.
Thanks for your comment!
Malika looks hot! I am loving the idea you are sharing all of the makeup you are using on Malika. Her eyes look beautiful I like the light color lipgloss! Troy you are an awesome makeup artist! stay sooo sweet xo:)
thanks so much:) i will try that out today! hopefully when i graduate from aveda in a year-todays my first day-i'll be as awesome as you:)
I LOVE IT! She looks stunning, your blog is so inspiring!

troy,
she honestly looks FLAWLESS, love, it, i bought a lot of NARS summer 09 collection, this is a great simple way to use it - i wouldnt have thought of only 1 lid colour!
I am darker than Malika and I rock the teal/turquoise shadow (or bright green) during the summer!!! I don't overdo it though......Just enough colour to make it look obvious without looking garish. Thanks for putting someone of colour on your blog!! Your skills are A-MAZIN'!!!
Thanks for your comment's, and keep them coming. I love creating new posts, I have planned idea's most of the time, but sometimes when I met a hot girl like Malika. I just had to play with her face. How amazing is that blue? I mean who dares to wear a hot shade like that? I'm going to use it when I can. I couldn't wait to try it on Malika. It worked so well with her skin tone, and it was so Egyptian. That shade of turquoise blue and dark skin, amazing!
I would do this look with a very dark wine lip too.
xo Troy
I love Nars cosmetics, they're amazing! That eyeshadow was gorgeous -- I'd love it try it sometime. I think that that shade is great because it looks pretty on all skin tones. But I do think it looks great on darker skin tones because it just makes the color pop!
Good work, Troy. I wish you'd do my make-up someday! =p
First off, I love the blog. I visit everyday. Your photography is so on point in this pic. That popped more than the actual makeup to me. I noticed that same thing in the post you did featuring Khloe.
Secondly, like Scandalous Beauty said, it is soooo nice to see a brown skin girl featured and wearing bold color. So many women with deeper complexions shy away from bold color be it blue, green, yellow or otherwise. You have definitely shown that it can work. Kudos.
I've been reading the blog for awhile, but this is my first time commenting. I LOVE tropic! I got it a few weeks ago. I plan on picking up the scorching sun duo next time I'm at sephora. Thanks for pairing them together. :-) I really enjoy reading your blog and seeing your work. It's wonderful that you tell us the products you use too.
Brown Beauty! Love it.
u are so talented!
